When I decided to record my own voice for the audio book, I had the wonderfully good fortune to come under the training of Tristan Todd of Oklahoma City, who taught me the use of Pro Tools in his position with the Guitar Center of OKC. Tristan got me started and worked with me through the early days of trying to create both an acceptable process for recording and a sound studio of my own.
Tristan is a gifted teacher and experienced sound tech. He is also a VERY TALENTED musician in his own right. Only after recording my voice performance of the first half of the book did he and I discuss my need for both transitional clips and longer pieces at key moments of the book
The guitar riff featured as Jesse watches the silver rain is called “Not Along the Watchtower” and is written and performed by Tristan. He also adapted the song “Chicago Stomp” by Jimmy Blythe, which is over 100 years old and is legitimately prominent as the first of the recordings from the Boogie Woogie genre.

Here is a photo of the two of us at a local bookstore.
It Was Tristan’s Coaching!
When I met Tristan, as his student in Pro Tools audio recording and editing, I was just setting up a homemade sound booth in a small box trailer. He helped me check the resulting tests of sound quality as I chased down the interference in my recording environment. He then introduced me to the craft of sound editing. Without Tristan, it wouldn’t have worked. I am ever so grateful for his coaching!
